What is Self-Managed Care?
Self -Managed Care is an Alberta Health Services funding program for Clients who wish to take direct responsibility for their own care at home, or Clients with a Legal Representative(s) who, on behalf of Client, wish to take direct responsibility for the Client’s care arrangements at home. Clients or their representatives will be required to set up a separate banking account used only for the purpose of receiving funding from AHS and disbursing the funds to pay for client services, according to the needs assessed.
How to Apply for Self-Managed Care?
To access this service, contact your local Home Care Case Manager for more information, and from there an assessment will be completed to determine your specific needs and eligibility. If unable to find your Local Home Care Office number, please call 1-855-371-4122 (select the option for Edmonton Zone when prompted) and they will direct you to your nearest Community Health Provider. You may refer yourself or someone else (with their consent).
What is Client Directed Home Care Invoicing Program?
Client Directed Home Care allows any person approved or eligible for AHS Community Home Care, including Self Managed Care (SMC), the opportunity to select their own preferred private home care services provider to work with, without having to submit invoices for reimbursement. With CDHCI, clients have more input into their care and scheduling, while enjoying the personal relationships and customer service that happen when working with a private home care provider such as Harbor of Health Home Care Services.
The Client Directed Home Care Invoicing Program (CDHCI) is an innovative option offered by Alberta Health Services (AHS) to support clients with their personal care needs, respite, and homemaking. The provider agency (that’s us!) will provide the services that have been arranged by you or your designate and direct bill AHS through Alberta Blue Cross for care provided.
With Client Directed Home Care, you have access to your choice of provider, improved cash flow with direct billing, and have access to additional services should your budget allow. Most families use this funding to greatly reduce the amount needed to keep their mom or dad safe and comfortable in their own home.
Home Care Services covered under CDHCI
- Help with personal care
- Assistance with homemaking tasks
- Respite care to give caregivers a break
If you’ve been approved for self-managed care or public home care and want to choose your own provider, reach out to us about CDHCI. If you’re already a client and want to join the CDHCI program, get in touch with us. We’ll help you get started.
Benefits of Client Directed Home Care Invoicing
Direct Billing: You won’t have to pay upfront for most of your home care expenses or deal with getting reimbursed. We’ll handle the billing directly with Alberta Blue Cross for you.
Reduced Administrative Tasks: If you’re managing your own care, you might want to hire your own caregiver. This means dealing with things like finding, hiring, insuring, managing, paying, and then getting reimbursed. But if you choose Harbor of Health Home Care, we take care of all that for you. That way, you can save time and focus on your health.
Choice of Provider: Before, if you were getting public AHS home care, you didn’t get to choose your care team or caregivers. But now, you can pick your own home care providers. With Harbor of Health Home Care Services, you’ll receive private care managed by registered nurses and excellent customer service, all covered by public funding.
How to Apply for Home Care or CDHCI?
If you’re thinking about getting home care, here are a few important things to know:
First, you need to live in Alberta and have a valid health care card to qualify for home care.
Second, your needs should be something that can be safely taken care of at home. Home care is for people who can get help and support while staying in their own homes.
Lastly, you need to meet certain requirements set by Alberta Health Services. They’ll look at your situation and decide if you qualify for home care.
If you want to get assessed for home care, just call 811. They’ll help you through the process and give you the info you need.
